BIG CHANGES in the Cup of Bead Soup project!

This has been in the planning for MONTHS
and I'm excited to finally fill you in!

If you've been a follower of this page or my main blog, Pretty Things, you're familiar with my Cup of Bead Soup project.  For the past year, I've purchased beads, sight unseen, from various bead makers and tasked myself with creating things with components I didn't choose myself.  It's been a fantastic way to push my design skills and break out of making the same old/same old.  In essence, it's a one-woman-production of the Bead Soup Blog Party.

Starting next year, a bead maker will create
FOUR identical Cup of Bead Soup kits.

One for me...
three of YOU!

When it's Cup of Bead Soup time,
I'll write a post for interested participants to comment on.

Three lucky people will be chosen at random,
and these three designers will receive the same kit I do.

Each Cup of Bead Soup will have
a different price range, with all proceeds
going directly to the bead artist.
(Support handmade!)

The four of us will then create a piece of jewelry
and have a mini-blog hop
to show what four people can do with the exact same beads.

Sound like fun?

Then stay tuned -- a blog button will appear soon
with the date of the first "pick me!" post.

The first bead contributor will be....

Barbara Bechtel of Second Surf and Floridity!
I hope you like this new format
and I can't wait to create with you!

Lori Anderson makes jewelry for her web site, Lori Anderson Designs, and wrote the blog An Artist's Year Off. She is the creator of the Bead Soup Blog Party.

  1. Oh wow, how much fun is this! And manageable...while I love blog hops, the challenge of making it through hundreds of blogs (or even 50) and giving each piece a thorough perusal is time consuming in a life where free time is limited. 4 blogs, 4 pieces and enough time to enjoy. Heaven! Hope I get a kit some day.

  2. What an interesting idea Lori. Sounds like a great way to see diversity out of the same bead soup bowl. You are the greatest dear...

  3. Sounds like a fantastic idea Lori! I would love to be a contributor - ie: "maker of kits".

  4. I love reading your Bead Soup Posts Lori, The idea has pushed me to try combinations and styles i have not tried before. I cant wait till this one starts.

  5. This sounds wonderful! You are soooo nice to your fellow beaders!

  6. This does sound like fun! The last month has been so awful for me personally, that I have done NOTHING with my beads :(I'm looking for ways to get my creativity "sparked" again-and beading challenges always seem to do that for me.

  7. can't wait..this will be so much fun to see what 4 designers create from the cup of soup.

  8. Lori, this is such a great idea! i can't wait to see that "pick me" button!

  9. yay! and Barbara knows how much I love her beads :-)

  10. Oh, I so love this idea. Pretty intimidating, since I've seen the beautiful work you do on the cup of soups! And it's not seed bead work! But I think I might have to throw my hat into the pot on some of these~Thanks for sharing!

  11. Interesting spin on the bead soup party. I love it! It can be daunting to get to all the blogs, this will be fantastic. I can't wait to see the creations.

  12. You haven't made it easy to comment on the "raffle" you're having for all the other artisans. It's a great idea; but, I wasn't able to determine where the comment area was/is. The things shown are lovely.

  13. Lori, this sounds great!! I can't wait for your pick me post for a chance to be one of the 4.

  14. Wow! What a generous and intriguing idea. I can't wait to put my name in the hat.

  15. This sounds like so much fun. I can't wait till the sign-ups start. I'd love to try my hand at this.

  16. Just found your site and this sounds like lots of fun. Can't wait to sign up.

  17. This sounds amazing, I can't believe I missed this post! And also, I think I recognize that picture.....:-)

  18. Looking forward to doing this...sounds like great fun.
